Hexagram 59 Flow
The model of the moment: Water, like life, is a multifaceted phenomenon. It can delight and sustain with its gentleness, versatility, and beauty. Or it can terrify and kill in massive torrential floods. The point here is the wide range of events that the concept of flow can entail. The course usually recommended for such times: This is a good time to accomplish something, child. A favorable time for travel, and consultation with the powerful. The flow at this time overcomes obstacles, uncovers corruption, and reunites parties and elements previously separated. Don't be afraid of acting spontaneously now. In cases of crisis where prolonged conflict may mean disaster for all, flexibility in tactics is essential for optimizing the effectiveness of your forces. Delegate authority to competent lieutenants in the field, and allow them free rein to respond to the flow of battle with their best efforts. In this way few opportunities for advancement will escape you, and the enemy will find your reaction time to events too rapid to overcome in most instances. Flow also instructs us to seek out competent local assistance in navigating any contestable terrain that is unknown to us. If you're climbing the Himalayas, seek out a Sherpa guide; if you're installing a computer network, hire a specialist in the field.
Fixed (no changing lines);
This is a plateau process or event; the given model will hold true for an extended period of time. Attempts to manipulate events away from the present course could prove frustrating and fruitless, until destiny is satisfied. Consider the following as well as the above: Look to your roots for clues to solving your present dilemma. Sometimes we instinctively try to recreate the past, no matter whether it was good or bad. We do this from habit, and a wish for familiarity.
Changing Lines:
1
Look to your most valuable possessions at this time, and protect them ( These are not necessarily material goods ).
2
A certain flow of activity is necessary in one's life to clear away the accumulation of old and worn out notions and habits.
3
Immersing oneself in the flow of events can bring refreshment of the spirit. Great and challenging tasks may also demand your full energies for success.
4
The flow is becoming stronger, converting what was first excitement to apprehension. You can circumvent present problems by subordinating personal goals to the welfare of the group.
5
The flow of events is getting too great, thereby spawning chaos. Though there is some danger to the stability of the situation, you will survive the storm. A single, appropriate, creative idea or public display could restore order and unity to the situation at this time.
6
After a great disaster, it is often best to leave and start anew elsewhere. For example, if a cataclysmic flood proves your present homesite to be unsafe, it would be only wise to move someplace else to rebuild.
When all lines are changing;
The present flows steadily into the future at the speed of light. And carries all with it, including us. The flow of events is like a stream, with eddies and currents. Going with the flow is usually the easiest course; going against it the hardest.
