Hexagram 48 Sustenance
The model of the moment: The major source of your sustenance is never yours to control or restrict access to for others; it belongs to everyone. To ignore or deplore such sources of sustenance which nourish all, is unbecoming, and possibly harmful. The course usually recommended for such times: Do not ignore the benefit this source of nourishment can bring you and yours. For example, in some places public libraries provide access to great amounts of knowledge at little or no cost to the members of a community. To ignore such riches is to starve body and soul, and limit your own potential contribution to others, including your family. And libraries are but one such source. Jobs too are a source of sustenance, and can be expanded in ways many never explore. Governments and companies often extend help to those with laudable goals, such as starting new businesses, furthering personal education, or seeking gainful employment.
Fixed (no changing lines);
This is a plateau process or event; the given model will hold true for an extended period of time. Attempts to manipulate events away from the present course could prove frustrating and fruitless, until destiny is satisfied. Consider the following as well as the above: You require the help of others.
Changing Lines:
1
Your selfishness has removed you from the concerns of others; no one much cares for you, or about what you do. If you allow this status to continue, you can be assured that your efforts will have no lasting results, and the world will forget you quickly once you are gone.
2
Don't expect others to cooperate with you; for you have neglected your duties, and brought significant negative consequences upon yourself and those around you.
3
You are not getting the recognition you are due. This warrants a change in the people you associate with, so that your true talents will be known.
4
This is a time for self improvement and renewal. Opportunities for you to help others will come later.
5
If you wish advantage, or to assume the leadership of a group, lend your resources now to helping others. The way is open.
6
Good luck is coming your way as a result of your charity towards others. Do not waste it with inappropriate behavior.
When all lines are changing;
Too often we take for granted the exalted existence we lead today. We egotistically believe we are self-sufficient and need none other than ourselves. Yet the bread on our table was put there mostly by others, and least by us. Farmers grew and harvested the grain, millers processed it, bakers baked it, truckers hauled it, stock people shelved it, and cashiers sold it. All this, in order that we could walk into our corner market and buy it. Much else that supports our daily life has a similar history. Our sustenance indeed depends on the work and good will of others, just as that of others depends on ours.
