Hexagram 44 Temptation
The model of the moment: Here is a meeting not of equals, but of an inferior element seeking something from a superior. It is a relationship which bodes no good. The conditions of the meeting are not entirely appropriate. Illicit sexual liaisons, or flighty lovers may be involved. This is also comparable to a meeting between spy and traitor, or criminal leader and assassin. Whatever elements come together here, the final results of a consummated deal between them cannot be calculated beforehand. No matter what the parties involved may think. The course usually recommended for such times: Seduction can be a difficult thing to resist, child. Whether its promises are of power, money, sex, drugs, or something else entirely. Be warned that even the most seemingly respectable circumstances of temptation hold within them the seeds of chaos; no one can predict what will occur if you succumb to the forbidden fruit. But chances are high that you will not enjoy the ultimate consequences.
Fixed (no changing lines);
This is a plateau process or event; the given model will hold true for an extended period of time. Attempts to manipulate events away from the present course could prove frustrating and fruitless, until destiny is satisfied. Consider the following as well as the above: A destabilizing encounter threatens ( or promises ) to restructure a large part of your life. This could, at best, give birth to a personal renaissance. At worst, everything you hold dear could come unraveled.
Changing Lines:
1
You personally are protected from external misfortune here. But still the suffering of those about you is easily discerned. Restraint of inferior motives and desires is essential here.
2
Friendly restraint is indicated here as the best course. You may offer others more than you can afford to give. Beware.
3
The difficulty of not succumbing to temptation is great now. Remember the potential penalties of giving in, and you will be protected from large errors.
4
Possible misjudgment of the motives of associates may cause you to lose certain opportunities now, and bring on misfortune. Do not promise to someone that which you cannot give.
5
Attend to developing your inner strengths and qualities, so that evil will withdraw.
6
Humiliation will be brought down upon you as a result of forcefully dealing with the present temptation; but sincerity can protect you from blame and restore order.
When all lines are changing;
Resist the lure of involvement with inferior elements, or risk great and unexpected change. The natural law of Entropy will make all such changes tend towards the destructive.
