Hexagram 41 Burden
The model of the moment: This could involve a personal sacrifice on your part, such as in paying taxes. It should be seen as a virtue, and noted as being wholly voluntary on your part. For you could leave this place and try another to change your level of contribution. Indeed, many enlightened people preposition themselves in such a way as to be free of the burdens many others face. A simple lifestyle, involving a sparse set of possessions, minimizes the disruption of frequent moves for instance. Few debts make one financially agile, flexible, and secure. Accumulation of valuable skills make one adaptable to changing circumstances. Holding social commitments to a minimum allows greater freedom of thought, movement, and change. The course usually recommended for such times: Sometimes the best action is no action. Or minimal action. Do only what is required of you at this time, child. Spend no excessive energies on the situation, as it would not help matters anyway, and could possibly bring you harm.
Fixed (no changing lines);
This is a plateau process or event; the given model will hold true for an extended period of time. Attempts to manipulate events away from the present course could prove frustrating and fruitless, until destiny is satisfied. Consider the following as well as the above: Though you may feel unjustly put upon, you must accept the current circumstances. You have no recourse at the moment.
Changing Lines:
1
Arbitrating in the disputes of others is good, but you must be careful not to over extend yourself in personal commitments regarding the issues involved.
2
Offer only suggestions and advice to others at this time. Taking on the responsibilities of others will bring disaster. Allow the natural course of events to develop.
3
Society is like a great ship. If damage or decay occurs in one area, and the society's wealth is not used to repair it, everyone on the ship will suffer. Those on the lowermost decks will suffer first, but eventually those on the uppermost will as well. For when a ship sinks, it does so in its entirety. Order and security are preserved only as long as excessive wealth is distributed to maintain the balance and health of the entire society. So too is it necessary that social roles be well defined. If critical maintenance goes undone because of uncertainty in who is responsible for it, again, everyone suffers. There may also at this time be too many people involved in a particular task, requiring a reduction in numbers to bring about improvement ( as in a reduction in bureaucracy ).
4
You must admit that you need help, and quickly. Dispense with old prejudices and ill will, or face an increase in adversity.
5
Let go your pride and accept help from others in times of weakness, in order to regain your good fortune. Regrets will come from not making use of such opportunities.
6
Luck is with you. A new cycle of events is in the offing. Others are contributing to your position.
When all lines are changing;
It is best simply to bear the burden for now. Complaining will gain you nothing. If you would change things, resolve to change your lifestyle or goals to obtain relief in the future.
