Hexagram 33 Retreat
The model of the moment: This represents a time when one should yield to one's enemies and withdraw. Though times will eventually improve, in the near term things appear bleak. The course usually recommended for such times: Save your efforts for a more opportune time, child. Seek shelter from the storm.
Fixed (no changing lines);
This is a plateau process or event; the given model will hold true for an extended period of time. Attempts to manipulate events away from the present course could prove frustrating and fruitless, until destiny is satisfied. Consider the following as well as the above: This is a no win situation. You should quietly withdraw from it. Completely.
Changing Lines:
1
Retreat. Your stand against inferior elements is well meaning, but futile at this time.
2
Stay true to your ideals. Do not withdraw from them due to the present problems; your deep felt commitment would be transformed to bitter regret. Break free of selfimposed restrictions.
3
Enlist good help. You are weakened at this time, and require it. This will also aid in your withdrawal from the situation, as it will provide you with subordinates to distance you from the source of the troubles.
4
Extending yourself beyond your means solely for purposes of appearance is inappropriate. You don't have the resources to continue this charade; withdraw.
5
Ritual ceremonies are important for marking important events and achievements. Your withdrawal from the current situation is so highlighted, and allows you to preserve your more valuable relationships even as you disengage from the conflict.
6
Great rewards come from your total withdrawal from the contested circumstances.
When all lines are changing;
There are times to advance, times to hold your ground, and times to retreat. This is a time to retreat.
