Hexagram 19 Persuasion
The model of the moment: The power of persuasion is a potent force in human affairs. At its most powerful, it can raise mighty empires and corporations from nearly nothing. At the least, it can sometimes bring sorely needed help even to one who deserves it not. But rarely can persuasion stand alone for long, even when used by an individual extraordinarily adept in the art. Rather, it must find and attract to itself the real forces necessary to make its effects tangible, before its own ethereal nature is discovered by those held fixed by its power. Persuasion itself is the framing of a concept in such a way as to arouse others to certain actions or decisions. But it is only a frame. A carefully sculpted 'window' into the psyche of others, which can allow the framer to climb in and modify things to his or her liking. If the persuader is beneficial, he can bring inspiration, passion, and success to his audience. If he is malevolent, he can use his charm to aid in killing, maiming, or robbing. Witness the con men who regularly persuade rich elderly to give up their life savings for 'investments' that suddenly vanish into thin air. These thieves are using the power of persuasion. Persuasion is like money; it may do either good or ill, depending on who wields it, and for what purpose. An earnest businessman may use persuasion to get investors to finance a new factory, which in turn provides thousands of jobs where they are sorely needed. The most powerful masters of persuasion are also great negotiators. The course usually recommended for such times: You will find others receptive to your arguments at this time child. Do not waste the opportunity. Your persuasive power will wane all too soon.
Fixed (no changing lines);
This is a plateau process or event; the given model will hold true for an extended period of time. Attempts to manipulate events away from the present course could prove frustrating and fruitless, until destiny is satisfied. Consider the following as well as the above: The way is wide open to you. Your position allows you to bring to fruition plans, whether your own or those of others.
Changing Lines:
1
Persuasion, rather than coercion, should be used to influence others.
2
Persuasion is very important to the acquisition of true power.
3
Violence usually does more harm than good. If damage now exists from such action, amends should be made to minimize any negative consequences of the act.
4
Sincere efforts are beyond fault.
5
Take care to choose assistants carefully, in order to maintain authority.
6
The strict adherence to truth in efforts of persuasion makes for fewer problems down the road.
When all lines are changing;
Advance now while the way is clear. This time will not last forever.
